Week 10, Blog 1: Brainstorm of a Teaching Philosophy

Note to self- Need to go back and update this more.

Thoughts on reading processes-

Thoughts on reading pedagogy-

Thoughts on writing processes-

Thoughts on writing development-

Thoughts on writing pedagogy-

Thoughts on reading-writing connections-

Thoughts on cognition, cognitive development, and learning-

Thoughts on student growth-

Thoughts on assessment- Honors, Pass, or Fail. Taken straight from Elbow, but I agree with it. Grades are a load of crock, and it baffles me as to how we use this arbitrary system A-F for so much a student's life, despite the fact that it has no application to the real world whatsoever. No competent boss ever said to an employee "C+" (I hope). Assessment should be based around the same concepts it would be in practical situations, which means a focus on guiding the students towards practical, competent writings that meet the needs of the situation, rather than worrying about minor quibbles.
