A "Discovery of Competence" Teachers teaches about Amy Tan

Step One: Students read Mother Tongue
Step Two: Students write a paper about how it made them feel.
Step Three: Grad students/teachers read the paper.
Step Four: Grad students/teachers respond to the paper.
(Wait... isn't Discovery of Competence already basically an expressivist viewpoint? I'm answering this question twice. That's probably why it's so hard to come up with something that's not identical to what I already said about expressivist papers.)
Step Five: Everybody learns and grows and learns to believe in themselves and their authority as writers and readers.
