Reaction to McCormick

Ms. Mcormick has a pretty interesting take on the realms of composition ideology. She somewhat simplifies down and "clumps" the basic ideologies of writing teachers in order to make her points, but the insight she provides while doing so makes the work relatively worth reading overall. It's also perhaps the most narrowly-focused book that isn't a textbook that I've ever read. Perhaps it is a textbook, of sorts. Regardless, the best and worst thing about the book is clearly the way it lumps philosophies into "cognitivist", "expressivist", and "socio-culturalist". While this is useful in labeling and defining key ideas, it also serves to trap the ideas and mindsets, leading to the problem where it becomes difficult to actually implement something into practice without stumbling over the technicalities in definition that are presented.
